In 2007, Poets on the Porch celebrated its fifth year as part of the Norway arts Festival. The readings took place Saturday, July 7, 2007, from 1:00 to 3:00 on the porch of the Norway Memorial Library in Norway, Maine.

Here's who read. Clicking on a name will open a new window where you can see that writer's poems. As of 10 July 2007, we have six poets' work posted here and hope to have more soon.

  • Bill Shimamura, Bridgton
  • Tom Foley, Oxford
  • Chet Gillingham, Waterford
  • Greg Zemlansky, Norway
  • Julie DeGiovanni, South Paris
  • Tim Richardson, Lovell
  • Michalene Hague, Otisfield
  • Lisa Campobosso, Norway
  • Rob Noll, Norway
  • Joanna Reese, Greenwood

For your viewing pleasure, here are some images from the reading. Sorry for the poor quality, my camera draws in by establishing a partial vacuum. (Anyone with better photos, please email them to john@mainewriting.com.) In each photo there is a POP V. Some are easy to find, and some -- such as the pics of Rob, Siiri, and Julie -- near impossible. Good luck.

First held in 2003, Poets on the Porch combines the voices of a variety of area poets. Participating poets have ranged in age from 10 to 85 and come from every town in the Oxford Hills. All of the work shared that day will be original.

Ben Hull reads at POP IV.

"It's the diversity of voices that satisfies most, the kind of local chorus they make," says Lisa Moore of Harrison, founder and organizer of the event.

And if you're not a poet, come and listen. Poets on the Porch is free, and it's for all ages, all types, and all literary tastes. Check this site for more information and an updated list of scheduled poets as the date grows closer.

Many of the poets meet as the Mountain Poets Society. On the last Thursday of each month, they meet at 7 pm at the Fare Share Commons on Main Street in Norway to read and share poems. These informal meetings are open to all.

Here's the sign (Thanks, Rob) that invites passersby to our monthly Mountain Poets meeting.
